Along the road running from Mammoth to Two Towers, look for Blacktail Plateau Drive.  It's a 6 mile gravel road that winds up into the hills above the main road.  I spent many hours there.  While making my way down, at the east end, I stopped among an area of trees that had burned sometime in the past.  I don't know if it was from the fires of '88.  This is one of the key images of Yellowstone that I came away with after 10 days in one of the jewels of the National Park system.
