In October of 2004 I was camping in southern Utah.  I didn't have a reservation to Coyote Buttes, in the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness, but each day the rangers hold a raffle for the remaining 10 spots.  I decided to try to get a pass.  First day, no luck.  I hiked a slot canyon instead.  Second day I won! Next day I could to hike to The Wave.  The next morning it was rainy (such as it is, in the desert), so I didn't reach the trail head until late morning. It's a couple miles over rock and sand, but worth it.  Hope to go back before too long.
